Happy Mother's Day!

Patrick made a hilarious Mother's Day card for Mom today. Here's what it said:

Dear Mom, here's a poem I thought of yesterday.
Blood is red.
Frostbite is blue.
Machine guns are fast,
but I won't snipe you.

               HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Dad's Beard

Dad has decided to grow a beard. I guess he just got sick of shaving. Of course, there have been many beard jokes around the house. Here are some of them-

Mom to Neighbor: He's going for the "pioneer" look.
Me: Dad, I don't really have to brush my hair... I just have to rub my head against your face every morning!

Other people, like my Nana, don't approve of the beard at all but are nice enough not to say so out loud. Observe.

Mom- "Check out John's new beard! What do you think?"
Nana- "Ummm..."

It's Not Easy Being Green

It's Not Easy Being Green

My social studies teacher, Mrs Foy, is a total genius. Instead of making a Power Point, putting together a poster, or writing a short essay, we received a rubric for a talk show. About the Enlightenment. Featuring puppet versions of Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, John Locke, and Rene Decartes. I immediately sprang up from my seat, wanting to be in Ellie's group. But she already had enough people, and we weren't allowed to go over the limit. My next choice was Madie's group. But she already had enough of her friends to make up a group, too. I frantically , searching for a group that I could join, while a small feeling of panic rose up in my throat. I didn't want to be in a group of four again! But then, Sophia called my name from across the classroom. Her group needed one more person! I skipped over, happy to be part of a full team.
As the week went on, we fussed over our puppets, edited our script, and argued about our host for the show. We couldn't decide: Should our host be a real person, or someone we made up? So we compromised. Presenting "Brilliant Minds of the Enlightenment, with Kermit the Frog!" Today, we had to figure out who was playing what character. It was then that we discovered that the three people who wanted to be Kermit didn't actually have a good Kermit the Frog voice. But we still needed someone to play Kermit, because we already had the puppet made, and there was no time to think up a new host. So then, everyone wanted to hear my Kermit voice. I was planning on trying for Isaac Newton, but apparently, my Kermit voice was the best. And with everyone making puppy dog eyes at me, and asking me to be Kermit, I eventually gave in.
We ran through the script once before social studies was over, and Kermit cracks awful and funny jokes all through the script. When we were finished, I could hardly breath.
I can tell you this: It's definitely not easy being green.

Why Do Teachers Teach Us Cursive

I don`t see why teachers teach us kids cursive, but I think it's pretty cool.
I learned a big q in cursive, and it was neat. My neighbor, Mrs. Williams, showed me. I wish my teacher would teach me cursive. We'll probably do cursive in the middle or end of the year. I wish I could write a letter to someone in cursive. I like cursive because you never lift your pen from the paper and some letters don't even look like they would in normal writing. My friend, Polly, has to do her homework in cursive sometimes. It's kind of strange that back in 1774 people wrote in cursive a lot more than we do now. Now we don't use cursive as much because we've invented the block writing like this computer writes. I wish my little brother knew how to read cursive then we could pass notes across Celia without her knowing. Again, I wonder why teachers still teach cursive because it's not like we're going to use it that much. A lot of writing is done on the computer today anyway.
And that's what I think about cursive.
